Massage or osteopathy — what’s the difference?

“In a massage, deep relaxation is the goal. In osteopathy, it’s just the beginning.”

Is osteopathy relaxing?

Yes — often more than clients expect. Massage-style soft-tissue preparation is part of the osteopathic treatment: muscles are warmed and relaxed first, and only then does Nataliia work deeper. Many clients say it feels like a massage that goes one level further.

Is osteopathy the same as chiropractic?

No. Chiropractic care is known for quick spinal adjustments — the “cracking”. Osteopathy uses slow, gentle techniques: no cracking, no forceful moves.

Will my insurance cover it?

Insurance receiptGatineau (QC)Ottawa (ON)
Massage therapy (RMT)✓ Yes✗ No
Osteopathy✓ Yes✓ Yes

Simple rule: in Gatineau both treatments can come with an insurance receipt; in Ottawa — osteopathy only. Why: Natalia’s RMT licence is registered in Quebec, while her osteopathy certification is valid in both provinces. Important: coverage varies from plan to plan — please check with your insurance company first whether massage therapy and/or osteopathy are covered. A receipt makes a claim possible, but it does not guarantee reimbursement.

Which should I choose?

If deep relaxation is what you’re coming for — massage is exactly that, start to finish. If your pain keeps coming back or movement feels restricted — choose osteopathy: it starts with the same relaxing soft-tissue work, then goes further to treat the source. Not sure? Every session starts with a short assessment — Nataliia will guide you.
